Ellie Krakow is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, ceramics, drawing, and photography. Grounded in her experience of chronic illness, Krakow’s current work merges bodily forms with elements of hospital design, using abstracted figuration to articulate the often-invisible realities of illness and carve out a place for the sick body within the lineage of figurative sculpture.
Krakow’s exhibitions include solo shows at Foyer-LA, Underdonk, Marinaro, Below Grand, the Goodyear Gallery at Dickinson College, NURTUREart, and Cuchifritos, as well as group exhibitions at Asya Geisberg, Simone Subal, 1/9unosunove, Thierry Goldberg, the Kingston Sculpture Biennial, and the Pula Film Festival. A NYFA Artist Fellow in Craft/Sculpture, her work has been supported by residencies at Sharpe-Walentas, Skowhegan, Yaddo, and Shandaken: Storm King. Alongside her studio practice, Krakow treats curating, writing, and public projects as opportunities to extend dialogue beyond the object. Her text-based works have been published in Precog, VECTOR, and Drain Journal; her curatorial projects have been presented at the Whitney Museum, NURTUREart, and Mazmanian Gallery at Framingham State University. Her most recent public project is a series of Disability Creatives Gatherings that bring together artists and thinkers exploring disability, illness, and bodily transformation.
